Science Discovery Centre Facilitator @ 5/21/2009 10:35:00 PM

Had a half-day job today @ Singapore Discovery Centre. Ok, it was quite a bad day to start. I overslept. Supposed to leave home b4 8am, but i woke at 730. So rush rush off i went... And along the journey, Nature kept calling be urgently. So although i reach the place at 9am sharp, i went to answer Nature's call b4 proceeding to find my in-charge.

Quite surprise to find out that i will be working along with Cynthia again, i tot it would be sb else initially. Okie. SO, what's the education tour for today? OLYMPICS QUIZ! The idea for the quiz topic was in view of the Youth Olympic Game (YOG) coming up in Singapore next year!

There were altogether 3 sessions held in the Discovery Theatre(DT), with each session having about 8 classes or so. The first 2 session was host by Cynthia, And the last session was by me! =)
She did a really great job hosting, well as for me, i guess it was not toooo bad, considering it's my first time speaking/hosting for a big group of 8 rowdy classes from 2E1 all the way to 2T1. The students are from Junyuan secondary(er, well i nvr heard b4 tht sch, so wadeva). This experience really tells me that i seriously DO NO LIKE teaching big classes. Especially where the students are so Naughty/mischeivious/Loud/crazy/rowdy and what i can't stand most is their non-stop shoutings where the sound is amplified so much in the theatre!

When the classes have settled down, i did a 'warm-up conversation' with them. Here's a short n very memorable conversation:

Me: "Anyone knows who are the YOG meant for?"
Student(shouting): "young ppl!!"
Me: "Yes, i knoe Young ppl, but how young?"
Student: "Young, like u lidat young"
Me: "(secretly feeling very happy, but tried not to show) So what age is it, exactly"

Anyway, the answer is within the range 14-18. So... hahaha! (very happy i was! lol)

It was really tiring conducting the session, I had to constantly shout over the microphone for them to be QUIET b4 i can continue the quiz.

After the session end i got this feedback from Cynthia, "Wah! u very fierce lei, the way u ask them to keep quiet..." =x oops! Didnt really realised that i was fierce. Haha!!

Who cares~

I gained a valuable experience today! =D
